Northwest Florida Beaches

The most beautiful beaches in the world are located in Northwest Florida. I don’t remember the name of the beach for this photo, but it’s located between Seaside FL and Panama City Beach Fl.  I have never seen any sand on any other beach more white than the sand in this part of the world. And as you can see, the color of the water can be quite beautiful and colorful as well.

1 PicADay Project: Day 96

Here’s the third Cross I’ve photographed.  It’s a shaker full of blue sand and glitter that I keep on my desk. (if you follow this blog often you probably are thinking that my desk is a little cluttered) 🙂  On one side of this shaker is a cross and on the other it has John 3:16.  The cross and the Bible verse are holes in the plastic.  When you turn it over the sand all goes to the other side and when you turn it back it falls through the holes revealing the cross and/or verse.

1 PicADay Photo #52 (pensacola sea gull)wmI took my children to Pensacola Beach awhile back and took some pictures.  Here’s one of a seagull.  I know the exposure is probably not just right because of all the bright sand, but I do like the bird.

As you can see, Pensacola has some of the whitest sand ever.  It is located on the barrier island called Santa Rosa.   Fort Pickens is located on Santa Rosa Island and was completed in 1834 and was used until WWII.   One of Fort Pickens most famous residents was Apache prisoner, Geronimo.

My husband used to live in  Gulf Breeze, Fl which is right across the bridge from Pensacola Beach.  I lived in Pensacola for about seven years.  If you ever want to get away to a beautiful beach, Northwest Florida is where  you should go.  You will never see more beautiful sand as well as beautiful water.

1PicADay Photo #29 (Pieces of Earth)wm

Ok, so this isn’t your artsy fartsy type photo but I wanted to share a portion of the  little collection I have going.  As I’ve said before in my Blog for day 25…my career doesn’t take me many places like my husband’s career.  I got this idea from my friend Glenn whose collection is displayed much better then mine.

I usually ask my husband, my brother-n-law or friends going on trips to bring me back a small portion of earth (dirt or sand) from famous or significant locations all over the world.  I have about 24 vials now and hopefully my little ‘earth’ collection will grow much larger.

Coincidentally I have been to the first three places in this photo.  New York is my favorite place to visit.  I also have an ‘earth vial’ from the house in Florida where I lived right after I was born as well as a vial from where my husband lived when he was a little boy. When we moved into our current home, the former owners had put rocks everywhere in the yard.  We had a hard time getting rid of them…of course the vial for our current home is full of…you guessed it….rocks! 🙂

If you are going on a trip anytime soon to an exotic far-a-way place, I’d appreciate a little  Ziploc baggy of ‘earth’ if you would be so inclined. 🙂

NOTE: I use a Label Maker with clear label tape for the names and I order the vials from www.specialtybottle.com The corks come with the vials.  You can order them in several different sizes and they are not expensive.

(Don’t look too close because there’s itsy bitsy dust bunnies on the top of these vials….pathetic!)
