Here’s a side view of Spaceship Earth Geosphere, otherwise known as the ‘giant golf ball’. This ‘ball’ greets visitors at the entrance of Disney’s Epcot in Orlando, FL. If you wanted to use the ball as a golf ball you’d have to stand at least 1.2 miles tall. Other than Cinderella’s Castle, it is one of the most recognizable icons for Disney.
Behind Spaceship Earth is a lake that is surrounded by sections that represent 11 countries including Mexico, France, Canada, United States, Norway, China and Italy. Each country’s ‘section’ has an attraction, restaurant and shops that sale items specific to that country.
While we were there Epcot was celebrating with a ‘wine and food festival’. Every few feet was a new kiosk with food from a different country. A fellow student of our children who was visiting the same week did not eat much for two days just so he could eat his way around the lake. What a wonderful experience he had. Until a little over a year ago he was an impoverished orphan half way around the world. Just before turning 15 a Nashville couple adopted him. It was such fun to watch him experience DisneyMagic for the first time. 🙂
